Around Amelia: Shrimp Festival 2017

2 (1 of 1)

It’s that time of year again! One of my favorite hometown traditions that’s only getting better as I get older. The Shrimp Festival in all of it’s glory is truly a reflection on how far our little town has come. It’s a celebration of Fernandina’s history in the shrimping industry and a heck of a lot of fun for everyone involved. One of the biggest events of the year here on Amelia. One of the reasons I was SO ready to move back to town, from Tampa was for the strong sense of community here. It’s something special and something I took for granted of for way too long.

Growing up I was always a participant in the festivities, never just a spectator. I remember being in the parade, pageant, or working a booth to fundraise for a club or sport I was in. Sometimes all three. It’s totally different wandering the Festival’s streets with no responsibilities. I dig it. This weekend I ate way too much (looking at you, funnel cake and fried shrimp) browsed some stunning art, spent time with the fam bam, and did a little street shopping. It was good, y’all.

If you’re ever in Fernandina the first weekend in May, be sure to hit up the festival and take in a bit of our small town charm!

Here’s a little photo recap of our weekend,
