DIY: Color Dipped Spoons

Back in 2014 (seriously feels like forever ago) I got hitched and had several bridal showers with about 16 hostesses total. I needed a hostess gift that wouldn’t break the bank (I was a sophomore in college taking care of kiddos for a living, so yeah…) that was also super cute. I turned to my friends on Pinterest and stumbled upon the amazing world of color dipped everything. I decided to take three wooden spoons, color dip them (there’s actually NO dipping involved), and tie them together with the cutest of bows. They were a hit! Today I wanted to show y’all how I did it and chat about a few other ways you can use these spoons!

2-1-of-1

What you’ll need: Painters tape, three sponge brushes ($0.25 at walmart!), three different colors of craft paint, clear acrylic sealer, and wooden spoons. I found my wooden spoons at Target this time around but Amazon has great deals as well!

4-1-of-1

Last time around I used traditional paint brushes but decided to go the sponge brush route this time around. Fantastic idea. Do the same!

5-1-of-1

Step 1: Tape off the tips of each spoon with painters tape. Make sure it’s tight so little lines of paint don’t seep through.

7-1-of-1

Step 2: Paint just the tip of each spoon with the color of your choice. LOVE sticking with colors in the same family to get the ombre look.

8-1-of-1

Step 3: Let the spoons dry for about thirty minutes. Once they’re dry to touch, you’ll want to step outside and spray with your sealer. Then let them sit over night.

9-1-of-1

Now that you’re done you can display them in your kitchen to add a pop of color or tie them in a bow and give as a gift! All in all this took about an hour and I’ll definitely be doing it again. Hooray for simple DIY’s.
