My Favorite Details From the Coastal Living Idea House

Idea House Edited-02

I’m so glad our recent vacation to South Carolina coincided with the opening of the 2018 Coastal Living Idea House in Habersham, SC. It was such a treat to tour this stunning home designed by Jenny Keenan. It’s hard to describe just how beautiful this space was, but the word unexpected is the first thing that comes to mind when I attempt. Habersham (my favorite neighborhood in the South) is the perfect setting for this lowcountry charmer.

The details were beautiful and totally unexpected.

A few of my favorite details:

1. The Mix of Texture

A designers best friend. Texture abounds in the 2018 Coastal Living Idea House. From natural fiber rugs to grasscloth walls and baskets galore. From a stone and leather combo to a classic pairing of linen upholstery and chunky tassels. I adore this juxtaposition!

Ps. That navy trim + navy grasscloth combo is giving me all the heart eyes!

2. The Kitchen That Looks Nothing Like a Kitchen

I was just telling my husband about how weird I think kitchens are. Stick with me for a minute. Why do kitchens have to look so much like… kitchens?! Why don’t we hide the bulky appliances and instead fill our spaces with something beautiful? It was just a thought. Days after this conversation I stepped inside the Idea House to find a kitchen that… looked nothing like a kitchen. This is what I’m talking about. Jenny Keenan perfectly marries form and function in this space.

3. The Classic Exterior Colors

Black and white never fail. I love the classic color scheme on a more modern design – perfectly suited for the neighborhood but still offering a fresh look.

4. The Outdoor Living Spaces

You can’t go wrong with comfy outdoor furniture, a stunning fireplace, and views of the marsh! I’d like to spend alllll of my time out here. Picture me on that loveseat typing this blog post… look about right doesn’t it?! #goals

5. The Bold Patterns

I’m a sucker for bold textiles, papers and tiles. This house takes #patternplay to the next level. So well done!

6. The Functional Layout

The floorplan is perfection. Such a great use of space. You’d never guess this house is under 3,000 square feet! Hidden bookshelves, sitting rooms, and storage galore!
