Travel Diary: Savannah, GA

IMG_0194

If you’re following along on Instagram or Snapchat (@winsomeandgold) you know that last Saturday my best friend, Catie and I took a day trip over to Savannah to celebrate her golden birthday! Also, who knew golden birthday’s were a thing? I totally missed mine (18th). Savannah is just under two hours from us so the trip isn’t bad at all. We started the day off at the Mirabella Cafe for breakfast and coffee. Brie + Raspberry Waffle for the WIN! I’ve been craving them every morning since. If you’ve never been, Mirabella is just about as cute as it gets in terms of Southern coffee shops. The marble countertops, pretty blue barstools, exposed brick, and ridiculously perfect interior details blow even the nicest Starbucks out of the water. There’s also a pretty view of a gorgeous historic cathedral right outside the doors.

After breakfast we walked over to a few of our new favorite shops! If you’re ever in Savannah you HAVE to stop by Number Four Eleven (they carry my favorite, Lake Pajamas) and One Fish Two Fish. I could have spent hours perusing the pretty collections of fine linens, interior accents, and personalized gifts! I’m a sucker for a well placed monogram…

After lots of shopping and walking we decided it was time for a little lunch break. Fun fact: Catie has never tried oysters. So we ordered some with all the fixins and (no surprise here) she was a big fan! Sorry Charlie’s got a makeover last year and it’s now one of Savannah’s premier oyster bars. We’ll definitely be back on our next visit! If you’re trying to find it, it’s located on West Congress, overlooking Ellis Square.

Next up, dessert of course! A birthday celebration without sprinkle macarons?! Fuhgettaboutit. We picked up an afternoon treat at The Paris Market on Broughton. Such a dreamy cafe + shop! Such a sweet surprise to find so much parisian flair right in the heart of Savannah.

While we were in town we just had to stop by Emily McCarthy’s new shoppe on Abercorn. It’s such a gem! They had just celebrated the grand opening a week prior to our arrival and had already sold out of a number of items. The picture below gives you a little peek at her offerings! I picked up a collection of pineapple goodies and a few fun accessories! Already planning what I’ll be purchasing on our next visit. #ThoseColorsThough

We had to pop into Palm Avenue so Catie could try on ALL the white dresses. She’s getting married in November so naturally she’ll need a pretty white dress for every occasion leading up the big event! I got quite emotional as she was trying them on. Shortly after, an older woman in the store caught on to what was happening and decided to join me in helping her choose one (despite having two rambunctious little girls in tow). Everyone loves a bride!

And of course… it wouldn’t be a trip to Savannah without a stop by Paula Deen’s, the Lady and Sons. We skipped the buffet (tried it last time and it’s just WAY too much food for lunch! Delicious though!) in favor of browsing the signature shop.

I couldn’t have asked for better weather or a better friend to spend the day celebrating! If you’re ever in the area and need recommendations on places to eat, stay, or visit, I’d be more than happy to help point you in the right direction!

“I am proud to be a Southerner. I think Southern hospitality is very… I don’t think it’s just a term. I think it really exists. You can come to Savannah, and the people are so sweet and so nice.” Paula Deen
