Travel Diary: Jekyll Island, GA

jekyll club 7

I’ve always enjoyed visiting Jekyll Island but didn’t quite fall in love until our first stay at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, for our honeymoon. What was once a winter vacation destination for some of the wealthiest families in the country (think Rockefellers, Pulitzers, and Morgans) is now the perfect mix of historic charm and luxury accommodations. If it’s good enough for the Rockefellers, it’s good enough for me, right?! This time around we were able to reminisce in our favorite spots and discover a few new gems along the way. The property is filled with stunning architecture, serene landscaping, and good ole’ southern charm. We always enjoy exploring the acres of historic homes and gorgeous gardens on foot but golf carts and bikes are also available for rent. Or if you’re feeling romantic, you can opt for a horse drawn carriage ride around the island (#pinchme).

This time around we stayed in the beautiful Crane Cottage (here’s the link to our room, we’ll definitely be back in this one next year) but we’ve stayed in the main hotel and enjoyed that as well. We arrived to Jekyll a bit early to check out the shops and grab lunch at the newly opened Beach Village. After a bit of shopping we were able to check-in to our room early. I couldn’t get over the stunning view from our balcony and Pearce went straight for the jacuzzi tub.  After getting settled in we walked over to The Pub for dinner and drinks (they make a mean Moscow Mule)! We also LOVE the Courtyard at Crane if you’re looking for something a little less casual. If you’re wanting the full Jekyll Island Club dining experience, you’ll have to enjoy at least one meal in the Grand Dining Room. After dinner we walked the grounds and peeked inside our favorite homes and art galleries. We were hoping to spot a few deer like we did on our honeymoon (we were followed by about a dozen!) but could only find one. After our walk we popped into the Club Cafe for some late-night pizza. It’s delicious, y’all! The next morning we ordered room service breakfast (pure deliciousness) to enjoy on our balcony. I could have spent all morning week sitting out there with coffee in hand and a good book in the other. We spent the rest of the day lounging by the pool, getting our steps in, and soaking up the perfect weather.

I received several emails and comments regarding the property and a few readers mentioned they had trips planned to Jekyll in the near future. If y’all have any specific questions I’d love to chat via email or you can leave a comment below!

Thanks SO much to the Jekyll Club for having us! We’ll be back real soon.
