Life Lately

fb dock

Happy Monday Thursday, friends! I hope y’all had the best Memorial Day weekend. Despite missing my sweet husband like crazy, I had a pretty fabulous (and wildly eventful) couple of days with Hannah. She and I were roomies back in the day and quickly bonded over our mutual interests, i.e., Jesus, Lilly Pulitzer and the cute kiddos we nannied. Thankfully she moved to Tampa shortly after I started working for Emily Ley, to nanny for Em’s twins and run the EL blog, so I still get to see her pretty often.

Friday night Hannah came to visit Amelia and I had a blast showing her around town. It was quite the challenge trying to squeeze all of my favorite restaurants, shops, and activities into two days. Poor thing had to put up with me changing our dinner plans every half hour. The island isn’t too big so we managed to cover a lot of ground in the short time she was here.

Friday evening our first stop was 29 South for dinner followed by my favorite, The Salty Pelican! Amelia offers a fabulous selection of locally owned restaurants, making it difficult to choose just one when we have guests in town. 29 South was the perfect spot for dining al fresco. Their farm fresh menu selections are absolutely divine. If you stop in for a visit, be sure to grab their coffee & donuts for dessert! Such a yummy dish.

Hannah and I popped into Twisted Sisters earlier in the evening and each picked up one of these adorable Mud Pie clutches! You’ll be seeing a lot of it this summer. Not in the area? You can find the clutch online, here and the tote version here.

Saturday morning we woke up bright and early for a breakfast date at one of my Fernandina faves,  T-Rays. Afterward we made our way to the Omni Amelia Island Plantation for a pool/beach day. A few hours in the sun was such a nice change of pace from the wild week I had. I wouldn’t recommend booking your stay over Memorial Day Weekend though, it’s all kinds of crowded out there. I should also mention that they have the BEST poolside fish tacos in the history of poolside fish tacos. They’re worth every penny, promise!

Next up I took Hannah to my second favorite spot on the island. This pretty little marsh view in my grandparent’s neighborhood never fails to amaze me.

Our final adventure led us downtown to Brett’s Waterway Cafe for dinner and then to the fudge shop for some roadtrip essentials. I feel it’s necessary to share with you all that we ate fudge for breakfast. It was worth every calorie.

Sunday morning we woke up at the crack of dawn with every intention of having a smooth trip up to NC for Whit’s wedding. (Whitney also works with us at Emily Ley, you can find her blog here!)

Well, that didn’t really happen. We ended up hitting some bad weather in South Carolina, not being able to check into our Air BnB until after the wedding, and finding out the Blow Dry Bar was closed. So… where’s a girl to get ready before the wedding?! We thought it would be just fine to pop into the local Supercuts for a blow out. Major fail. All I can say is NEVER go to Supercuts. Y’all probably already knew that one though, you’re a smart bunch. You live and you learn, right?! Shortly after our supercuts session it started pouring and our hair took a big hit. And then to top it all off we discovered some info about our Air BnB that led to us skipping the whole experience and starting the drive back to FL right after the wedding. We made it about 3.5 hours before stopping for the night at hotel in SC. It was an adventure.

The wedding however, was absolutely gorgeous! Whitney has an amazing eye for detail. Everything had her special touch on it, from the invitations to the dinner menu! It was a true Southern Soiree. Follow her on Instagram (@WhitV) to see more photos!

I  wore my favorite Camilyn Beth dress via Hayden Olivia Bridal. I’ll be sharing more details on the dress next week.
